Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 2000, Shan's early life took root in Shanghai when his parents relocated there when he was just under two years old. his early life took place in between the two cities across the strait. growing up in Shanghai, he navigated various international school environments and formed connections with a multitude of global peers who, like him, embraced the experience of being "third-culture kids."
In Shan's eyes, the vast diversity of human cultures ultimately reflects our shared humanity, a perspective he embodies through his lens. His works are deeply personal rather than political, stemming from his geopolitical upbringing. Currently residing in London, Shan is pursuing studies in “performance design and practice” at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design.

- Responding to Shanghai Lockdown 2022This series of photographs was created in response to Xi Jingpin’s infamous zero-case policy which led to Shanghai’s 2022 lockdown and was soon followed by the Ürümqi fire incident later that year, causing a series of nationwide protests against Xi’s governing. Life is a calculated risk. Far too often, we made the safest choices that ended up getting us nowhere in life. Freedom can’t be achieved apart from risks, but only through risks.
