Anthropology and Sociology graduate from Goldsmiths University. UK Editor of independent media site ragged.media. Interested in the Media and Charity sectors. Undergraduate focus was on human rights, development and dissecting notions of ‘first and third’ worlds. Dissertation research questioned the power and place of communities in the process of 'regeneration’ in London - involved interviewing local campaigners, politicians and analysing developer documents. For the past two years I have worked to build an independent media website that provides informative and principled news, culture and opinion - a place where marginalised struggles and topics can find a voice.

Editorial Direction: Planning the focus of the website in terms of content and overall purpose. The drive was to build a media that was informative but unafraid to take a stand, that gave often marginalised struggles a voice and challenged assumptions. An example is our response to Europe’s refugee crisis and the policies enacted by governments, with a focus on the UK and Germany.
Writing/Publishing: Contributing opinion pieces, book and film reviews, frontline reporting and profile interviews. My work has particularly focused on the impact of the ‘immigration debate’ on people’s lives in the UK, exploring the harm of privately-run detention centres and deportation charter flights as well as reporting on grassroots resistance. A three-part series covered the UN’s inaction over historic sexual assault allegations against peacekeepers as well as profiling a campaign to hold them to account. In the course of my work I have interviewed campaigners, filmmakers, charity workers and more.
Website Supervision: Working alongside our coder to address issues with the running of the website, particularly around the implementation of our redesign.
Content Management: Handling submissions, responding to pitches, following up with writers, editing copy directly or providing feedback. Sourcing low-cost images, writing headlines and subheadings. Publishing through WordPress’ CMS. Monitoring engagement via analytics to gauge article reach, learning what gets readers attention and when.
Social Media: Managing Facebook and Twitter accounts, responding to comments and queries. Ensuring comments contributed to a lively and respectful space for discussion. Following engagement on both accounts via Buffer and Facebook analytics, adjusting wording and boosting posts to ensure they are most effective.
