Hi! I'm Shannen Dorothee Tioniwar, an aspiring product designer. I come from Indonesia and currently in my 3rd year of Undergraduate degree studying Product design in the University of Edinburgh.
My deep interest in product design stems from Ice-skating. As a National Figure Skater of Indonesia, I had the chance to design my competitive costume for the first time which really excited me. I enjoyed the whole design process thoroughly. Wearing the costume in the rink, I was filled with immense pride to showcase my product in front of a huge crowd. The costume received rave reviews which spurred me to delve more into design. When exposed to the HL Visual Art and Design Technology in the IB programme,I
was encouraged to think outside the box. Up to this day, there has never been a day that I forget what my Design Technology teacher said, that
“rebellions in art is the gateway of seeing things differently.” This has helped me to
transform my imagination into a reality.
Now in University, I have previously designed products covering many disciplines from home to automotive appliances and interactive interfaces.
During the course of my academic career, I also managed to accrue 2 months of work experience. I had the privilege of working for IBM as a UI design intern during my summer break in 2017, where I learnt valuable professional skills such as interface design, programming, and enhancing user experience.
Moreover, I would like to further my explorations on product design, a passion close to my heart. I hope you enjoy seeing through my portfolio.
Projects
- BORROWBORROW is a Leasing device that promotes Community design. It Rethinks Ownership through supporting the old value of sharing and helps users to think of possessions not at an individual level but at a community level: share and borrow amongst networks you build. It is presented as a portable device that has a touch screen interface with an added voice recognition system.
