Shekhar is an award winning disabled and neurodiverse screenwriter/filmmaker. A trained actor, Shekhar started out behind the camera as a screenwriter and director in 2001 training under Rolf De Heer. His multi-award winning short films have screened at various festivals around the world including Tribeca, New York, Toronto, Bilbao, Durban and many more. Currently, he is in development on two features - ‘Caterpillar’ and ‘Patsy’. Shekhar’s Feature Film Treatment for ‘Caterpillar’ was the Grand Prize winner at the New York Screenplay Festival.
During Lockdown 1.0, Shekhar began pre-production on his debut Feature film ‘Running With Crutches’. The film was co-written and co-directed with Australian Filmmaker Molly Reynolds. This was Shekhar’s first feature as DoP. The film is currently on the film festival circuit. It had its World Premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in October 2020. Apart from currently developing two television projects, Shekhar is in pre-production on his second feature which starts filming in London this winter.
During a year long stay in hospital in 2022/2023 for spinal stabilisation and augmentation surgery, Shekhar remotely directed two Polish short films ‘Strings’ and ‘Dictator’.
Entrenched in visual-story-telling, Shekhar believes in story and screenplay.
