About me
An editorial director, writer and educator specialising in contemporary photography, with a particular passion for emerging talent. Now working at Magnum Photos as Head of Content. During two decades at British Journal of Photography was responsible for its transformation from a parochial weekly trade title with an uncertain future into an award-winning international media platform with an international readership, shaping the relationship between print and digital, and forging brand values that were successfully built upon in subsequent years.

My primary responsibility was the day-to-day running and development of British Journal of Photography, an award-winning content platform comprising a print magazine, website, digital apps and social. Managed and commissioned a small team of staff and freelance editors, writers and contributing photographers, as well as design and production, and working with colleagues in marketing, social, events and commercial. Created and honed a strategy aimed at building a brand and community around the magazine, focusing on the growth of our international audience, and attracting younger readers. Developed ideas for channels and events that would complement the brand, such as Portrait of Britain, an annual public exhibition shown on digital screens throughout the UK during the autumn.
