I worked one month with Hangar, in collaboration with the artist Délio Jasse. - Working with archives - Creating audio files for his exhibit - Selecting material connected with the Colonial War In his photographic work, Jasse often interweaves found images with clues from past lives (found passport photos, family albums) to draw links between photography – particularly the concept of the “latent image” – and memory. Jasse is also known for experimenting with analogue photographic processes such as “Vand Dyke Brown”, as well as developing his own printing techniques. The analogic processes that Jasse uses confer to his works a monotype character, subverting the reproducibility of the photographic medium, through the direct intervention on unconventional supports, also the application of emulsion with gestural strokes or with chromatic notes.

Demythologize that History and Put it to Rest - Inspired by Edouard Glissant’s assertion that history and its formation should not be left to historians alone, the artist Marcio Carvalho invited fellow artists from Angola, Cameroon, Gabon, Iraq, Mozambique and Portugal to present live performances and public discussions to counter- monumentalize these crystalized objects, to demythologize their hegemonic, western narratives and to search for other memories and other narratives. Demythologize that History and Put it to Rest is an art project by Marcio Carvalho in collaboration with the art space SAVVY Contemporary and its archive project Colonial Neighbours, Hangar – Centro de Investigação Artística and the Gabinete de Estudos Olisiponenses.
