My name is Sophie Crighton I am a Glasgow based artist and designer. I am a recent graduate of Heriot-Watt University School of Textiles and Design, specialising in woven textile design. I studied in the heart of the Scottish Borders where I gained extensive knowledge of the design industry and traditional textile design. I am a creative and passionate individual with extensive experience in weaving, screen printing and digital illustration. I am proficient in adobe creative suite and I offer a versatile but focused multidisciplinary skill set. After collaborating with several companies I gained relevant professional experience and I acquired valuable insight into how the design industry works. During my degree course, I have developed an excellent eye for detail and colour. As a result, I was awarded the Bernat Klein Award for Creativity and along with three others, I was shortlisted for the Worshipful Company of Dyers colour prize. I am an ambitious and energetic person who has developed a mature and responsible approach to any task I undertake. I am excellent at working with others to achieve a certain objective on time and to a high standard.
Projects
- Colour In MotionInspired by the optical and kinetic art movement, Colour In Motion explores and analyses the connection between colour theory and cognitive perception through the medium of woven and printed textile design. I created a collection of hand-woven, screen-printed fabrics combining traditional and modern techniques to create effects which range from the subtle to the disorientating.
