I work weekend shifts a Dunelm Soft Furnishings Store where my role in store is a Sales Assistant; I am also being trained up in other areas around the store such as the Customer Services Desk where I would be able to process refunds and exchanges, and the fabrics department where I would be responsible for cutting and measuring fabric. My responsibilities include: • To help customers in store to find items that they require and that they meet their needs and requirements. • To operate a computerised till system and serve customers on the tills as well as packing and wrapping products correctly. • To answer the phone in a professional manner and assist customers with their queries as wells as forwarding the call to the appropriate staff members. • To make tannoy calls for members of staff to attend certain areas of the store.
Unpaid placement at BBC Watchdog and Rogue Traders. Job role involved acting as a runner, researcher and intern, working alongside the Production Team, opening and replying to viewer correspondence, go on hunts for locations, sourcing stories, and assisting on location filming. Worked with Matthew Allwright and Fiona Phillips on location shoots.
As a volunteer of the Hospital Radio, I had my own show which ran for half an hour on a Tuesday. Here I was responsible for playing music suited to the demographic of hospital patients and staff. With help from the station manager I used the system Myriad to play tracks which were broadcast live on to the radio. In between songs I also spoke to the audience introducing songs and talking about everyday news.
My Work Experience responsibilities included: • Collecting the post each morning for all of the post and delivering it to the relevant worker in the office. • Researching the news in the morning and keep track of all the magazines relevant celebrities. • To write a selection of horoscopes that could be used for the following week. • Research the latest fashion trends using PR Websites • Select clothes from fashion brands in Oxford Street and bring these back to the office. • Transcribe an interview with a reporter and a Hollyoaks Star.
My Work Experience responsibilities included: • Editing an Interview on Lizzie Yarnold at the Winter Olympics which was used in the following morning’s show. • To partake in a business phone call with 3 other members of staff to discuss the week’s schedule for the shows. • To research local stories which were then shortened in to scripts and read on live radio by a presenter. • To contact business owners and the local courtroom to get views and opinions on developing stories.
I have been a member of the Langton Sirens radio show run by students at Simon Langton Girls Grammar School. The show runs once a week and I have a role as reporter and “Deputy Manager”. I have recorded the news for the show and organised and helped a team to record at an event outside of school in which we recorded a Debating Final both for our show and for the event organisers themselves.
My Work Experience responsibilities included: • To gain knowledge of the responsibilities of colleagues and to learn the day to day duties required to operate the store. • To learn how the computerised till operated, including the use of coupons and codes, and to serve customers. • To understand how the online ordering, reserving and stock system worked and use this resource to help customers. • To stock the shelves and help customers to the best of my abilities when making purchases.
