Zero waste. Design, content & photography for ethical businesses. Let’s focus on the good & work towards simpler, more sustainable living. I value the purpose behind brands and communicating this purpose through mindful, minimalist design with a quirky touch. From photography and styling to writing impactful copy, I believe that every project is as unique as the individuals behind it and needs to be treated as such. I believe in doing good, sharing, celebrating and encouraging creativity. Since moving from Cape Town, South Africa, I have worked full-time for a financial services company in Edinburgh (as a graphic designer) and, after moving to London, have worked as a freelancer for a number of companies including Mulberry, Ted Baker, Pringle, London Transport Museum and Topshop. When not working in contract roles I work from home on client work and photography projects whenever possible.Locked Pro Plan feature
In between working for strong brands, since graduating in 2009, I have run a successful freelance business, As a result of dealing with clients on a variety of projects, I have a solid understanding of the work and intensity involved in succeeding in the creative industry.
I work as a freelance digital graphic designer at Mulberry as and when they need me and have done so from July 2015 . My main responsibilities have been emails, webpage layouts, various digi ads and elements for social media.
I worked on various graphic design projects, from promotional material, logos, brand guidelines, posters and booklets, to digital banners, powerpoint presentations and email newsletter designs.
My time at Yuppiechef was extremely valuable in terms of what I learned and the people I had the privilege of working with. I had a great experience working on a variety of design from digital to print: I worked on the weekly newsletters, print advertisements, business cards, packaging (bags, boxes, product containers etc), digital marketing, posters and competitions. I helped with styling photography shoots and enjoyed conceptualising and doing research for various projects. As well as graphic design, I managed Yuppiechef's Pinterest account and nearly doubled their following. I learned the value of a positive, inspiring work environment and the importance of fun and good coffee in producing great work.
Whist working for Eat Art (aka Kalk Bay Foods), I enjoying designing themed gifting and packaging for Globus (www.globus.ch/en) and festive season packaging for Woolworths and Pick and Pay. Print production was a large part of my role and I learned a lot about DTP and creating product mock ups. New Product Development was a huge part of my role and enjoy brainstorming in a team and collecting inspiration for new projects. I worked on both packaging and pattern design. I am very comfortable dealing with manufacturers; printers in particular, and with print production. Tasks as part of my role included: packaging design, NPD (new product development), DTP, mock up creation, photography and photo editing.
I completed 3 year diploma in graphic design and art direction. Our first year was spent focusing on typography, concept, illustration and learning the basics of the Creative Suite. Following that, we developed advertisements, working with the marketers and copywriters, presented our brand strategies to actual companies, learned more about the practicalities of the industry, basic Flash, HTML and CSS, Adobe Creative Suite and how to effectively communicate ideas in a visually pleasing manner suited for a specific target market. We were encouraged to enter competitions and to work on actual existing briefs such as wine packaging and the Exclusive Books bag re-design. After 3 years I had a hardcover, bound portfolio of my best pieces and felt confident in going out into the world as a qualified and inspired graphic designer.
