About me
I graduated from Cardiff School of Art & Design last year with a BA (Hons) degree in Artist: Designer Maker. With making at its heart, this course allowed me to explore working with a vast range of materials such as wood, metal, textiles and clay. My work combines traditional textile craft with modern furniture design, creating unique and functional furniture and decorative textiles. In my final year of university I wrote a dissertation titled, ‘An Exploration into Whether Modern, Urban Environments are having an Adverse Impact on the Health and Wellbeing of the Population and Natural World’ for which I researched human wellbeing and how we can actively improve it in our modern communities. Since graduating university I have spent some time working in a activity and wellbeing centre specifically designed to be enjoyed by those living with a dementia. Through this experience I have learnt how to use art to communicate with people and improve their health and wellbeing. I have also been working in the hospitality industry, through which I have gained great customer service skills, confidence in talking to people and the ability to fulfill admin roles. I express my artistic side through the discipline of textiles, especially weaving and embroidery. I currently have a one day a week internship at a vintage clothes shop where I make clothes out of something old. This is giving me the opportunity to do my favourite thing, which is to sew.

This is an internship where I am mastering the skill of pattern cutting and operating industrial sewing machines to rework vintage clothes into something new to sell in store and online. The clothing I have been working on and making includes dresses, tops, trousers, shorts and anything else we can think of to get the most out of the material we have.

My main responsibility in this role is planning and running art, craft, singing, dancing, music, poetry and cooking activities to improve quality of life, specifically for people living with a dementia. I also spent some time helping to market the company on social media through quotes, polls, and relevant posts and helping find the right people to contact in order to propel the business. In order to succeed in my role as best I can I spent time studying dementia, and how people can continue to live their lives positively and stay fulfilled as I was working directly with members who may be living with a dementia or memory loss. I had to work within and encourage the company’s ethos of delivering a good and enjoyable day to everyone, no matter what obstacles may be affecting them.

BA Honours Artist Designer: MakerCardiff School of Art & Design
     - Cardiff, United Kingdom
This course is inspired by and is all about the process of making, whether that is textiles, ceramics, wood or metal. During my degree I focused on the physical, narrative and aesthetic values and connotations of materials and in turn pushed these materials to change their roles, expected ability and place in an object. Due to my background in textiles I chose to explore how fabrics, threads and the old crafts used to produce textiles could be adapted into the mechanics of interiors, with their function becoming their beauty within the form of an object.
