About me
Hi, I’m Steve and I am a Manchester based freelance Animator, Motion Designer and Editor. I have worked for a variety of clients such as Sony Playstation, JD Sports, BBC Sports, Saucy Fish, Brother and many others. After finishing my degree in 2011, I stayed on in Manchester to find myself in my ideal job at the Neighbourhood. There, I was an Animator/Designer for 4 years designing anything from stereoscopic films to brand films and TV ads. I loved what I did and worked with some amazing people but decided to make the jump to freelance in November 2015. I am currently living in Withington and can mostly be found in local beverage houses in the area or stuck to a climbing wall somewhere! Cheers, Steve
Projects
  • Invosys
InvosysFor this piece we were asked to create a brand animation that stripped back on the technical jargon and showed how Invosys could keep the telecoms running smoothly while the customer focused on their job. I worked with Dave Wharton to design and animate this brand video in Cinema 4D and After Effects. We were considering doing the whole piece in After Effects but I was keen to do as much as I could in Cinema to test out the link between the two.  Created by: The Neighbourhood
  • Big Chip Awards 2014 Titles
Big Chip Awards 2014 TitlesBack in 2014, we were contacted by the Big Chip Awards and asked if we wanted to produce the opening titles and theme for that years award ceremony. There was no budget for this so myself, Michelle Collier, Chris Moran and Dave Wharton took this upon ourselves to try some techniques and create something cool. We came up with the idea of "Big Chip Moves" to try and get award winners to add a dash of excitement to their winners speeches by showing us their moves! We had 10 days to come up with the
  • hoUSe
hoUSeThis animation was produced to show how Urban Splash’s hoUSe homes are pieced together and can be build to specification. They were first being built in New Islington not far from our studio but more sites were rapidly being snapped up around the country. We wanted to show how this modern take on a terraced house could be the perfect choice to settle down in, as you could completely design the hoUSe to your needs and then simply drop in into the street once it has been built. I worked with Miche
  • Rock and Roll Zoo - Dorothy
Rock and Roll Zoo - DorothyThis is a short teaser animation produced in a couple of days by myself and Chris Moran for Dorothy (www.wearedorothy.com) who produce a great range of prints. If you are looking for some great gift ideas or even if you just love maps like me, check out their store! The animation was for an event they were taking part in at the Kessels Kramer outlet in London. We took some of the assets from their Rock and Roll Zoo print and brought them to life for on screen at the event. Created by: The Neighbourhood
  • Saucy Fish
Saucy FishI have had the most fun working on these projects over the last few years. The team worked on the scripts right up to the sound design. Then once we had the go ahead we developed the storyboards with Adam Cadwell (www.adamcadwell.com) and collaborated with Tracy Worrall, (www.tracyworld.co.uk) who produced the illustrations for us. From here we used the DUIK rig for After Effects to rig the characters and animate them. (duduf.net)
  • Sony Playstation PSP Ads
Sony Playstation PSP AdsThis piece was my first taste of stop motion in the advertising world. We were asked to produce three 30 second animations to advertise the latest Sony PSP consoles and Essentials Packs. We collaborated with Kim Emson who directed the stop motion and it was my task to edit and grade the pieces as well as the other post production. All the tracking was done with Mocha and the animation and grading was done in After Effects and Premiere.

Since then I have been working for many different studios picking up many new skills and working on some exciting projects. I did a long stint in the BBC Sports Graphics team working on programs such as; Match of the Day, Sports Personality of the Year and Ski Sunday. As well as this I designed and produced the broadcast branding for the BBC's coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympic games which has probably been my biggest commission to date.
