During this internship, I assisted the media team at The University of Sheffield to internally and externally promote the success of academics by aggregating news using Cision and producing daily newsletters using MailChimp. I also wrote copy that will be featured on the university’s outward facing website in the near future. I assisted in researching many avenues that academics could use to promote their work, including podcasts, blogs and YouTube videos. Another task was to research and plan social media and public engagement ventures for prospective undergraduates.

As part of this paid internship, I was tasked with assessing the current and future usage of the lab facilities within The University of Sheffield’s Information School. This included conducting wide market research, SWOT analyses, surveys, subsequent statistical analyses, interviews, and report writing. Following this, I created an extensive online user guide using Google Sites. To promote and market the labs, I produced screencasts, images, and video tours using a DSLR digital camera and Adobe Premiere Pro. I organised and conducted a usability test on users and planned a marketing strategy for both physical and online social media promotion. My manager entrusted me with managing my own time as well as the majority of the project. Following my swift completion of this work, I completed administrative tasks for the professional services team and aided in the reorganisation of university web pages using CMS coding and web design. Finally, I secured a partnership between two faculties to share knowledge and resources from their labs.
