About me
Hi I'm Stuart, an illustrator and designer from the flat lands of Lincolnshire. Which might explain my fear and fascination of mountains. I studied Illustration at the University of Lincoln, UK and graduated in 2014. I like printed textures, handmade type and riding my bike.
My objectives for the future are to continue developing my skills and working on interesting projects with great people.
Projects
- Ohh Deer Greetings CardsThese are my entries to this years Paperjam competition. The brief was a pretty general one, to simply create images that you thought would fit within the 'Ohh Deer' brand. As the company is most notable for its sense of humour and play on words I decided to create a series of illustrations based on underwater themed puns.
- Penguin Books Maycomb MapI was commisioned by Penguin Random House to produce a map to celebrate the release of 'Go Set a Watchman' to paperback. As Maycomb is a fictional place I took some liberties with the composition to make the town look like a giant mockingbird to reference Harper Lee's preceding novel 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. The illustration was used as window displays at various Waterstones stores across London and online as an interactive map.

Work history
Freelance Illustrator
I specialise in editorial illustrations, typography and making maps. I would describe my style as naive and playful. I like replicating traditional printed methods so my work usually has a limited colour palette and some textures thrown in for good measure.
I have been lucky enough to work with both local and international companies such as Penguin Random House, Proctor & Clarke and Autoweek Magazine. My work has also been featured in publications such as ‘Mind The Map’ Gestalten, ‘Illustrated Maps’ Monsa and IdN Magazine.
