I am a marketing and brand manager turned UX Designer, I also work as a freelance copywriter and ironically find it difficult to write about myself. With an academic background in Communication Studies and Art History, I spent seven years working in museums and galleries before pursuing UX Design which I realised combined my strengths in problem solving with my flair for visual design.
I have recently finished an intensive UX and UI course with CareerFoundry, and these days you will find me applying my UX and branding skills at Bohemia Design, an e-commerce store dedicated to promoting slow craft and ethical consumerism.
Whether it’s engaging people with the arts or making online shopping friction-free, I love the challenge of improving user experience informed by research and empathy. To see my latest work, take a look at my portfolio website, www.smcateer.com

Brand Manager & UX DesignerBohemia Design
Edinburgh, United KingdomFull Time
As brand manager in a small team, I am responsible for both digital and print marketing strategy and implementation as well as management and development of three online stores – one B2C and two B2B. Collaborating with the company director and photographer/ stylist, I also lead on art direction for all content including product and lifestyle imagery, email newsletters, blogs, packaging, and biannual catalogue/ magazine.
Undertaking user research, I consistently review key user flows to understand pain points before wireframing and prototyping solutions to ultimately make the Bohemia online shopping experience as seamless and enjoyable as possible. Recent improvements include accessibility site audit and applicable updates, changing size variants from drop-down to buttons, mini-cart shipping threshold messaging, seasonal landing pages, and wholesale application forms.

Copywriter & Content EditorSusan Mc Ateer Copywriting
Edinburgh, United KingdomFreelance
In a freelance capacity I write and edit content for a range of organisations with a focus on visual art. Clients include the National Galleries of Scotland where I have written both long and short form artist biographies, as well as contributing to podcast script editing and research. I have also written content for From The Studio, an online commercial gallery, including artist interviews.
My experience extends beyond the arts sector including a client in the food and beverage industry, Fi Global. I write press releases, articles, interviews, and reports for this client and am adept at researching and interpreting content for a sector that I had no prior knowledge of.
