About me
I am an artist and illustrator with decades of design experience in the media industry. By choosing to go freelance, I have been able to devote myself to a variety of creative projects. I take art and illustration commissions, but am also skilled in data visualisation, graphics, layout and typography. If you have a project for me, I am happy to hop on board and offer creative solutions or collaborate on new ideas.

  • Stylised Seascape
Stylised SeascapeFor some time I have been wanting to try a different technique in my acrylic paintings – a less is more approach. By not underpainting and leaving sections of the canvas bare or 'naked', one achieves a lighter feel, even though it is a riskier way of painting similar to watercolour. You have to be more deliberate with composition and the way you apply colour, not wanting to stain the primed stretched cotton. ‘Stylised Seascape’ (91cm x 122cm, acrylic on canvas) inspired by Castlemartin, Pembroke
  • Unhinged triptych
Unhinged triptychFinally complete: A series of three paintings, themed around the architecture of plants. Celebrating the simplicity and graphic quality, from left: ‘Silver Joey palm’ Johannesteijsmannia, ‘Golden barrel cactus’ Echinocactus grusonii, ’Windmill Palm’ Trachycarpus fortunei. Each measures 60cm x 60cm and is worked in acrylic paint on canvas. The inspiration came after looking through pictures I took at the Palm house in Kew.
  • Hoodie & Banks adventure series
Hoodie & Banks adventure seriesThere are now two titles available to purchase as ebooks on Amazon in this bird adventure series, which I wrote and illustrated: 'Hoodie & Banks and the Protection Racket' and 'Hoodie & Banks and the Identity Crisis'. Ana Jenkin edited both books and wrote a lovely bird glossary for each one. See covers and page samples below.

I have been freelancing now for almost two years, mostly designing remotely. Recently I have been pulled into the world of book design- just finished my 4th book, designing for HarperCollins. I have also had commissions for graphics both for print and digital (maps and data visualisation), which is something I did at the start of my career and always have done to some degree, though in the background or incorporated into layouts. I am always up for a new challenge and have enjoyed the variety of work I have been involved in since leaving the Telegraph Media Group. A link to my portfolio will be provided on request, as I try to have some current work in it, which might not be published yet.
