Symela is a Greek emerging graduate designer based in London, UK. In her work, she celebrates individuality and authenticity through a focus on sculptural techniques and wearable sportswear garments. She bases her sustainable fashion on 3 fundamental pillars: Zero waste exploration, use of eco-friendly materials, and fabric remnants. Her innovative and ethical made designs are aimed at conscious customers, those who value individual expressions and aren't afraid to stand out from the crowd.
In her graduation year, she was selected for the Lcf2020 Press show and shortlisted by ShowStudio and Nick Knight as one of the 22 graduate students who caught their eye. Furthermore, Symela was selected by British Vogue to re-imagine Barbie and create garments for their September 2020 issue.
Alongside her fashion design career, Symela has worked as an Art Director and Stylist for many titles and brands including Vogue Arabia, L'officiel, Flanelle Magazine, Design Scene, and more.

- I think I'm cursedPolyester Zine commissioned me for this editorial and is about a persona, inspired by 1870’s female contortion artists, drag queens’ references, horror movies combined with personal thoughts and expressed through colourful symbols. Creating this arc for the character was important , in order to show how troubled she is in her thoughts, overthinking, pressured by society’s standards and having guilts that led her to unrealistic expectations and doubting herself, her initial motive.
