I’m currently a Master’s student at Konstfack University of Arts, Craft and Design, though I moved to Sweden from the US with a much different agenda…the agenda of love. Though happy to report that my love quota is filled, my career is single and ready to mingle. I’ve spent the majority of my time since undergrad in the more tactile field of jewelry design, though have always had an affinity and talent for writing. I spent three years of high school on the school newspaper, which is continually ranked as one of the best US high school journalism programs, graduated as an editor and received several nationally recognized awards both from the Georgia Scholastic Press Association and the Southern Interscholastic Press Association. In my first year at the University of Georgia, I was selected as the best freshman essayist among 5,800 students. I spent my first two years there as an English and Communications major before, like every 20 year old, changed my major a disturbing amount of times and landed among the artists. The older and further I grow from those formative years, the more I find myself drawn back to where I began. Were my parents right about art school and the job market? Perhaps.
As I reimagine my career to include a broader spectrum of creativity, the opportunity to work on writing projects for a companies that value high quality narrative content, creates an auspicious bridge for all the relevancies that exist between being a maker of sellable objects and a writer of sellable ideas. I can strongly establish a context around products that might appear banal on their own, and with an adept use of empathy, find it easy to craft both objects and stories that target specific consumers. I’m also well versed at swimming through the vagaries, the gists and the impossible design ideas that clients struggle to explain, and work like a magician to bring them to life. The experience of bringing other people’s ideas to fruition is one of the most useful tools I’ve learned and know that it will serve me well no matter the field of work. With much patience, I work meticulously, for the devil is more flagrantly in the details when it comes to jewelry than perhaps any other art form, and fastidiousness is a natural trait that follows me everywhere- whether I invite it to or not.
Whether I become a part of a team that handles more content creation or accessories design, I will bring a fresh set of skills in storytelling with words or objects and would be a hard working, timely, and energetic hire.
