About me
Passionate about telling stories, both ancient and present. Proud to support any and all storytellers, regardless of background. Always writing down new ideas. My ideal career would allow me to partake in the production or editorial processes of great stories, be that in film, television, theatre or publishing. I have gained so much from my exposure to these industries throughout my life and it is reflected on my choice of classes and extra-curricular activities (e.g. studying English at A Level and university, participating in school theatre productions, submitting a Creative Writing Dissertation). I feel most productive and confident when immersed in the creative arts and firmly believe that my strengths in time management, team building and people skills all stem from my background in amateur theatre. I’ve had to work in a team setting with new and diverse groups of people, balanced my school work with my dedication to extra-curricular theatre practice, and ultimately learned to be comfortable speaking in front of large crowds with confidence, clarity and conviction - all of which are skills that I think are crucial in any industry. My biggest ambition currently is to continue the rise of old tales being re-told for new audiences, particularly those that come from Ancient Greece and Rome, which I gained a deep love for over my time at the University of Exeter. It is vital to keep these stories alive as they laid the groundwork for the structure and influence of drama and literature that we see today, and I feel that there is so much in ancient stories that we can still learn from even centuries later. My latest creative project involved adapting an ancient Roman comedy into a modern 2 act play, which we successfully performed in an outdoor venue on the university campus. This was all planned and organised amidst the pandemic and taught me many things, such as the value of how even small team can achieve big things. I had to risk assess the events, co-ordinate my creative team and cast, control finances, source props, write and edit the script and advertise and sell tickets for the event. All of these skills were used successfully to create an event I was immensely proud of and brought joy and a sense of community in a time of uncertainty and division. On a less career-based note, my interests include archery, narrative-driven video games, baking, hiking, writing plays, and attempting (often poorly) to keep up with my ever-increasing list of books to read.
