Tele Lawal

Founder, Senior Programme Manager + Former PoliticianLondon, United Kingdom
About me
Tele Lawal made history by becoming the youngest Councillor, and first-ever black-elected female in the London Borough of Havering, serving a term from 2018-2022. She is also the former Parliamentary Candidate for Hornchurch and Upminster Constituency in the 2019 General Election. Her prior political portfolios were Crime and Disorder Committee, as well as the Children Services and Learning Committee. Using her expertise in these areas, she held police advisory positions on the Independent Advisory Group and Stop & Search Monitoring Group (MOPAC initiatives) for three years. While serving in public office, she has worked in both private, public and third-sector institutions, such as UK Parliament, Capita, Metro Bank and My Life My Say. Tele is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. In 2017, she founded a national bank’s race and ethnicity network, Mbrace, which has over 3,000 members - shaping diversity and inclusion across the bank - seven years on. In 2018, she was appointed Havering Council’s Champion for Diversity and Inclusion for the London Borough of Havering. This was followed by the launch of Havering Racism in 2020, a social campaign, which resulted in a Brough-wide review by the Local Government Association, and a commitment by Havering Council’s Cabinet to reset its diversity and inclusion initiatives and policies. Before her departure from politics, Tele supported the development of an action plan. Currently, Tele is a Senior Programme Manager at Turner and Townsend, within the Real Estate Portfolio and Programme (REPPM) team working in the global Shell team. While working full-time, Tele is building an African business Kouture Paradisé, with her Co-Founders (team of 3). She also sits on the Creative Mentor Network Youth Board. In her spare time, she runs a Christian literature book club (Faith Book Club) and enjoys ballet and art.

  • Fashion’s Hidden Impact
Fashion’s Hidden ImpactEach week, 15 million garments flood into Africa, leaving a trail of waste and environmental damage. At KP, we believe in a different future, one where fashion and sustainability walk hand-in-hand. Join us in embracing a zero-waste mentality, supporting local industries, and fighting against pollution. Let’s build a future where fashion heals, not harms.
