About me
What is Yarnbombing? It's a type of urban art or graffiti using knitting or crochet. It is used to challenge the perception of a place. A dark alley that was once threatening now has flowers along it's walls to make it seem safer. A statue of a revered figure from history wears a bobble hat and scarf reminding us all great people are/were just human and we can all achieve. It encourages us to love where we live by taking of our environmet, by sharing something we have made with others to bring joy! We are a community group that came together to bring yarnbombing to Essex. We are three ladies who are passionate about crochet and knitting, and dedicated to exploring this medium in a contemporary way as a means of expressing how much we love our craft and where we live. We had also read about the positive impact it had brought to other areas of the country where is has been used to highlight issues such as blood donation (Knit One, Save One - NHS, England), to reduce the perception of crime in disadvantaged areas (Hinckley Road Police Station - Leics) and Breast Cancer Awareness (Tauranga Trust). We aim to deliver projects which involves the community and raises awareness of charities through the art of yarnbombing.

Apples For Alzheimers YarnbombCommunity Yarnbomb Project extraordinaire! We asked crocheters and knitters around the globe to make an apple. We received over 400 crochet and knitted apples. The apples were hung from our yarnbombing tree in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex and we asked those that took an apple to donate to our online fundraising page for Alzheimers Society. We raised an amazing £1369.95 https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/applesforalzheimers The yarnbomb was a huge hit with crocheters/knitters and the local commu

#LOVEBOMB Yarnbomb for Beauty BanksCommunity yarnbombing project. We have asked knitters and crocheters to come together in making love hearts for our next community yarnbombing project. The hearts will be placed on our Yarnbombing Tree and we will encourage those who take one to donate to our charity Beauty Banks. The money will be used to buy toiletries and sanitary products for charities who give to those in need of these items. We hope this is as successful as our previous Yarnbomb for Alzheimers Society, where apples we

Guinness World Record - Largest Crochet SculptureGuinness World Records
Our aim was to deliver a project that involved the community itself in creating a yarnbomb. We had contributors from all over the World. On the day of the yarnbomb a contributor flew over from Japan with her daughter to help with the official Guinness World Record count, it was amazing. Over 13,000 crocheted items were made and displayed in the gardens of Little Haven's Children's Hopsice in Essex. We had created the largest crochet sculpture with the help of 100's of crochet creators. Ambitious but totally worth it.
