Thomas Hanks is a Photographer and Creative Director from Winchester, Hampshire. He is currently based in Exeter, Devon. He loves exploring new places, documenting them as he goes; capturing the people that he shares the experience with. He has a demonstrated history of working in publishing and magazine design. Is highly skilled in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Lightroom with experience in Adobe Illustrator. I was employed by The Young Pretenders Theatre Company to produce head-shots for the cast and directors, as well as film trailer shoots for their upcoming productions. I had to liaise with the Director and Writer in order to produce images and film that met their requirements and creative vision.
Caffeine Magazine have employed me to photograph a number of locations around the UK. I captured images of cafes and the people who work there for written pieces in the magazine.
Exetera magazine an independent magazine run by University of Exeter students. It is widely read among both students and non-students. My role as Creative Director is to lead the creative elements of the Exetera, as well as producing the final printed magazine. Print: Formatting and designing the magazine using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom; preparing the magazine for print; produce images and graphics for the magazine; sourcing and commissioning images and illustrations. Online: Preparing the magazine for online use; designing and producing social media banners, header images and marketing materials; editing website; posting articles; updating social media. Management: Ensuring deadlines are met; working with the Editors and Deputy Editor on the direction of the magazine; meeting with university staff to gain funding and advertising space on campus; finding locations for shoots; liaise with business owners; delegating tasks to illustrators and photographers.
Hop & Barley have employed me to photograph a number of locations around the UK. I captured images of bars and cities for written pieces in the magazine. My images have been used as front covers on two occasions.
As Exetera’s photographer, my role was to liaise between the Editor and Creative Director, producing images that captured their concepts. I produced mood boards and ran creative ideas past the editorial team, offering my expertise on photography. I organised photoshoots, contacted models and scouted locations.
