Over the past few years, I have become passionate about the lack of diversity in graphic design so much so that I founded Melanated Magazine, a biannual publication showcasing and highlighting women of colour in the UK creative industry. I manage everything for the magazine from the social media profiles to the design and production aspect. Creating Melanated Magazine has allowed me to learn valuable new skills that extend outside design such as learning about interaction and engagements in social media and how to organise and hold events. I have also learnt a great deal about negotiating with suppliers to ensure that events run according to plan in addition to developing my editorial and layout design skills.

I have been a freelance graphic designer since 2017. My brand THYRABEE started in university where I have built strong connections and contacts. I have produced logos and stationery for medical practitioners, photographers and start-up businesses. I have also produced editorial promotional work for London based band Calico Jack and taken photographs for bloggers. Working as a freelancer taught me how to communicate with clients in terms of negotiation and critique as well as managing other projects in and outside of my studies. Additionally, working freelance has taught me how to value my work, how to take contrastive criticism and how to invoice clients accordingly.
