At this wedding venue I fulfilled a variety of roles, including, kitchen porter, waiter, bar supervisor, and evening manager. In the latter position, I was tasked with taking over the event manager's daytime responsibilities. Thus, I co-ordinated the service staff, took care of any problems that arose, and locked the venue up at the end of the night. In my position as bar supervisor, I ran the bar from open until close on wedding days, cashing up and filling out the banking forms once the bar had shut. In terms of the back office, my errands included ordering stock, booking in the order, cleaning the beer lines, and depositing money at the bank. Furthermore, I showed prospective customers around the venue, explaining our services, costs, and the booking procedures.

While at UCL I studied a broad range of subjects within my degree, including Modern Literature, Old English, Old Icelandic, and 18th Century Literature. In the course of my studies I took particular interest in Renaissance Literature, subsequently writing my dissertation on the writings of the playwright Webster. Moreover, while studying I also edited the music section of the student publication SAVAGE, a primarily online magazine which also produced two prints editions per year. Editing a section involved reading over submitted articles and suggesting changes; these included small amendments to syntax and grammar and asking writers to restructure and rewrite whole paragraphs and articles so the final product is a full reflection of their talent as well as an enjoyable read. Communicating with my subeditor was also an essential part of this position, which involved making sure our editing process was efficient and successful.
