Digital & communications: - Oversaw a huge expansion of our digital operation, including a redesign of the website to implement a new “vertical” strategy and advertising opportunities. - Rapidly grew our social-media presence and used it to support our commercial and editorial goals, including campaigns, competitions and promotions. - Worked with a digital editor on ongoing strategy documents to streamline content and improve site performance. - Launched the Reader’s Digest podcast. Co-wrote the content, managed the
editing process, and set up and conducted numerous interviews. Quickly built
an audience in the thousands and attracted sponsorship. Magazine & editorial: - Managed a large editorial team with a wide range of responsibilities. - Commissioned and wrote features, identified and recruited new writers, and looked after the brand’s cultural output, including its film coverage. - Managed a tight budget across all editorial operations, which came in well under target every month. - Worked with advertising and marketing to formulate a commercial strategy, build new partnerships and increase the visibility of our brand. Company restructure: - Rebuilt the editorial operation on a more streamlined basis, including interviewing for and recruiting a sub-editor, assistant editor and digital editor. - Oversaw a rapid restructuring and turnaround of the company, moving it from loss to profit in just 60 days.
