Digital & communications:
- Oversaw a huge expansion of our digital operation, including a redesign of the website to implement a new “vertical” strategy and advertising opportunities.
- Rapidly grew our social-media presence and used it to support our commercial and editorial goals, including campaigns, competitions and promotions.
- Worked with a digital editor on ongoing strategy documents to streamline content and improve site performance.
- Launched the Reader’s Digest podcast. Co-wrote the content, managed the
editing process, and set up and conducted numerous interviews. Quickly built
an audience in the thousands and attracted sponsorship.
Magazine & editorial:
- Managed a large editorial team with a wide range of responsibilities.
- Commissioned and wrote features, identified and recruited new writers, and looked after the brand’s cultural output, including its film coverage.
- Managed a tight budget across all editorial operations, which came in well under target every month.
- Worked with advertising and marketing to formulate a commercial strategy, build new partnerships and increase the visibility of our brand.
Company restructure:
- Rebuilt the editorial operation on a more streamlined basis, including interviewing for and recruiting a sub-editor, assistant editor and digital editor.
- Oversaw a rapid restructuring and turnaround of the company, moving it from loss to profit in just 60 days.
