About me

Also the Co-founder of The British Improv Project - an organisation dedicated to raising the profile, standard and perception of improv as a legitimate art-form in the UK. • The Same Faces: Uncle Armando
The Same Faces: Uncle ArmandoThis has been one of my favourite shows to work on. Based on the classic American format "The Armando", we made our show a little more fast-paced, short-form, and - hopefully - accessible to a mainstream audience. It blends stand up with improv (though this example just use members of the group rather than an external comedian), storytelling with deconstruction, and highlights how one person's idea can be interpreted in multiple directions. I'm convinced that this could be a fantastic TV forma
  • Tom Young's Something Old
Tom Young's Something OldAt the end of 2017, after eight years of working as a stand up comedian, I decided to record the "Greatest Hits" of my material as one show. In order to polish this up, I toured the country, performing in the living rooms of friends and strangers alike. My hosts would throw parties, inviting friends (serving as my promoters), and I'd be the evening's entertainment. A unique experience to say the least, but a creatively/financially satisfying one. The finished show was recorded at the 2018 Lei

The British Improv Project is - at it's simplest - a twice-annual retreat weekend for improvisers. It's objectives are far grander though, as we seek to enhance and develop the profile, standard and perception of improv as a legitimate art-form in Great Britain. Our first step with this has been to run our events, offering affordable workshops, networking and stage-time to improvisers who would struggle to gain access to such opportunities in "improv hubs" such as London or Bristol. I am responsible for training & programming, building/selecting the events' content, liaising with potential teachers, and MCing the weekends. This allows me to utilise my natural flair for event planning, networking, and community building. Our efforts have been highly successful, and have led to attendance growth of over 260% in less than 5 years. I'm most proud of the nationwide network we've created, allowing improvisers from across the country to meet each other in a way they wouldn't have been able to do just six years ago.

    Founder/Creative DirectorThe Same Faces
    Leicester, United KingdomFull Time
My career for over a decade has been working in comedy and improvisation. After working for years with other groups, I founded The Same Faces IN March 2013 to see if I could take improv to a new, more professional level. The answer was yes. I built improv communities from scratch in both Leicester & Northampton, teaching workshops and promoting/producing shows. I've trained dozens of performers from absolutely novices to experienced, professional performers who can be counted amongst Britain's best. We started with three members; today we have over thirty, and are ever expanding. A pair of consecutive award nominations from Europe's biggest comedy festival, gigs around the country, and careful brand management on my part have led to me being one of the country's most respected improvisers. This also aided my role in the formation of The British Improv Project.
