In summer 2016, I applied for a volunteer position at the charitable organisation RNIB. I worked extensively with the creative team creating artwork for faculties within the company and content which was scheduled to be released to the public.
My responsibilities included:
• Creating content for upcoming events and campaigns
• Having continuous communication with members of the teams and clients for brief specifics and requirements
• Taking meetings with team leaders to discuss future projects
• Proofreading content to ensure work of a high standard
• Producing new ideas and concepts
• Presenting finalised ideas to the team/managers and receiving constructive criticism
• Being innovative with ideas and using initiative
• Suggesting different solutions in order to tackle client problems
• Creating sketches/Drawings/Mock-ups in a timely manner
• Working to weekly deadlines
• Establishing target markets and trends
• Working with a range of media including CAD
As RNIB (Royal National Association for the Blind) is an organisation set up specifically for partially sighted and blind people, their aim is to bring people with this disability together through events and support groups. They provide emotional care and a helpline service for people losing their sight, as well as creating awareness for the general public.
Throughout my time at RNIB I was faced with many challenges I hadn’t previously encountered, adjusting to the specifications to design for partially sighted people was difficult but overall the experience was insightful and informative.
