Hi,
I’m a Senior Copywriter and Creative Lead who also happens to be one of the writers behind the conversations you can have with the Google Assistant.
But let me go back a bit and tell you how I got to where I am today.
Having studied History at university, the story of my professional life began when I started working in a museum. It’s 2005 and all of a sudden I found myself saying good morning and see you tomorrow to the same ancient artifacts, day after day after day. It was a long internship to put it mildly. And a very long year, to be precise.
A change was needed and I decided to take a 90 degree turn. I joined a publishing company as one of the proud founders of a motorcycle magazine. It was a wild ride from a blank sheet to thousands of readers, and all I had to do was test the bikes I loved and write about them. Happy days indeed.
Three years and many news headlines later, one of my feet touched the BBDO office reception area for the first time. The briefings, the concepts, the ideas, the headlines, the campaigns, the interactive world. It was just a constant WOW moment for me.
Several agencies and cool projects later, I thought this is it, this is the world where I want to spend my career in. Then 2018 calls. Says Google UK wants to have a word with me. The question “oh no, what have I done?” was promptly answered: this is about a job offer, they want you to join them as a creative writer for the Google Assistant, EMEA team. Interested?
Well, let’s just say that’s how my other foot entered the Google office in New York for the first time. It was incredible, really. Pretty much indescribable, to be honest. So, after a couple of weeks in NYC I arrived in London as happy as I could be. The learning curve was as long as the flight, and the conclusion is obvious.
I have two feet, yes, but I am also immensely grateful and proud of the teams I’ve worked with and the friends I’ve made. Thank you all.
Cheers,
Vasco
