About me

Hi, I’m Wassif. I am a Web Designer with a background in Software Engineering. These two together have helped me establish an understanding of both the creative and technical aspects of projects. I have experience in: web design, web development, email design and responsive design. I have a keen interest in innovation and progression and always try further my knowledge when possible. I enjoy hacking things together, tinkering with micro-controllers and naturally think outside of the box. I have worked with clients from a range of industries ranging from Banking to Automotive with some of the more notable ones being: RBS, Hyundai, Public Health England and The White Company. Having worked in both small and large teams, I am able to communicate and liaise effectively with designers, copywriters, developers and other stakeholders My communication skills have also helped build a stronger relationship with clients. I met with clients regularly and kept them up to date on the advancements within our industry and how this could be beneficial to their business. I take pride in my work, enjoy keeping up to date with the latest technologies and trends. I am constantly challenging myself to excel. In my spare time I enjoy photography and always make sure to take my camera whenever I travel! Some of my other hobbies are science (I’m a huge fan of space!), tech, gaming and arts. I like finding new places to visit, whether it be locally or abroad. I have a huge interest in fashion and recently attended London Fashion Week. I’m passionate about music too and listen to different genres ranging from Jazz to EDM to Indie.

There were a total of around 70 campaigns to redevelop which managed to be completed ahead of schedule. During my time here I wrote some public facing docs for Nunjucks templating and helped the email team further develop their jQuery skills.

        Hays PLC

        Jan 2018 - Feb 2018
        • London, United Kingdom
        • Freelance
        • My main tasks at Hays included designing/building microsites for third party clients and coding emails. The design work consisted of single page designs which incorporated the look and feel of the client’s brand. The coding phase included using HTML5, CSS, jQuery and JavaScript. I also re-coded some internal email layouts to make the code more maintainable and easy to read whilst also making the templates mobile responsive. Whilst working here, I was put on a pre-existing WordPress build. Due to several people having worked on the project, the code was becoming difficult to maintain. My task was to tidy up the customer-facing UI and add additional functionality via JavaScript/jQuery. I also spent time commenting the pre-existing JavaScript code, restructuring the files and helping to get the SSL certificate updated. The WordPress site was managed through Plesk.

        • During my time at Ometria I was a freelance email developer, the tech stack consisted of Jinja for templating, Zurb foundation for email which was used to build emails and Gulp for automation. Having not worked with these technologies before, I managed to pick them up quite quickly. I worked on both automation and broadcast templates for clients and liaised with other teams regarding any issues that arose. I had also spoken with the senior team across all teams about possible improvements to the platform and helped implement new processes and team structure/benefits for employees. I was called upon a few times for my insight into how to help better the email development team and what processes we should add/remove to improve this. I also worked on some redesign while here, for both the ticket system portal and the welcome email My work ethic here has been a huge positive for the business and I had been offered a permanent role multiple times. The teams I work with also were very fond of me and especially enjoyed the quick turn-around time when delivering work. I strived to ensure that I worked to the best of my ability and made sure to give back to the business.

        2017

        Front-end Developer

        DST

        Sep 2013 - Mar 2017
        • Moorgate, London, UK
        • Full Time
        • Starting as a Junior front end developer, I worked on creating both responsive emails and micro sites for our clients. Working with large clients has hugely furthered my understanding on how to follow web standards practices and accessibility standards. Working in a team alongside the web development team, our code was correctly commented, clean and easy to maintain. The coding languages used regularly included HTML, CSS, JavaScript, LESS and jQuery. Emails were also coded to a high standard following brand guidelines and rendered on most browsers and mobile devices, Litmus and EmailOnAcid were used for render testing. During my time here, I had also worked on creating an internal email builder using jQuery, JavaScript and HTML5 to help speed up our email builds. Furthermore, I can code to support all major browsers down to IE8. Working within the Creative team has also given exposure to design, by helping out during pitches or amending designs, I have furthered my skills in Adobe Illustrator, After Effects and InDesign. My role then developed into Senior Web Designer which came with more responsibilities and skills of team management. I attended and chaired weekly meetings with the team to highlight issues and concerns, whilst also using the opportunity for us to share ideas. I have spent a lot of time helping to improve the relationship between the creative team and our clients, I have presented new ideas and ways of working to the client which has in turn improved our workflow and relationship. During my time as Senior Web Designer, I was approached by a client who was asking whether we could use heatmaps on their emails, within a week I had liaised with all the relevant teams and come up with a proof of concept for automated heatmap reporting for email send outs. The client was very impressed and the project became a business wide product which would be pushed out to all clients. I was one of the main internal points of contact for client applications stored on Amazon Web Services including EC2, Elastic Beanstalk and Route53. I have also worked extensively on load-balancing through Elastic Beanstalk.
