Hi, I’m Wassif. I am a Web Designer with a background in Software Engineering. These two together have helped me establish an understanding of both the creative and technical aspects of projects. I have experience in: web design, web development, email design and responsive design. I have a keen interest in innovation and progression and always try further my knowledge when possible. I enjoy hacking things together, tinkering with micro-controllers and naturally think outside of the box. I have worked with clients from a range of industries ranging from Banking to Automotive with some of the more notable ones being: RBS, Hyundai, Public Health England and The White Company. Having worked in both small and large teams, I am able to communicate and liaise effectively with designers, copywriters, developers and other stakeholders My communication skills have also helped build a stronger relationship with clients. I met with clients regularly and kept them up to date on the advancements within our industry and how this could be beneficial to their business. I take pride in my work, enjoy keeping up to date with the latest technologies and trends. I am constantly challenging myself to excel. In my spare time I enjoy photography and always make sure to take my camera whenever I travel! Some of my other hobbies are science (I’m a huge fan of space!), tech, gaming and arts. I like finding new places to visit, whether it be locally or abroad. I have a huge interest in fashion and recently attended London Fashion Week. I’m passionate about music too and listen to different genres ranging from Jazz to EDM to Indie.
I was called back at Ometria to help redevelop some legacy email campaigns to support the new platform. There were a total of around 70 campaigns to redevelop which managed to be completed ahead of schedule. During my time here I wrote some public facing docs for Nunjucks templating and helped the email team further develop their jQuery skills.
worked with Quietroom to create email designs that tied in with their advertising campaign for their pension scheme. Working with the designer and copywriters to create a responsive in-brand animated email. I was provided with the AI files from the animation and used assets from this to create gifs to insert in to the email. During my time here, I also worked on redesigning their newsletter email design and general comms email template.
During my time at Ometria I was a freelance email developer, the tech stack consisted of Jinja for templating, Zurb foundation for email which was used to build emails and Gulp for automation. Having not worked with these technologies before, I managed to pick them up quite quickly. I worked on both automation and broadcast templates for clients and liaised with other teams regarding any issues that arose. I had also spoken with the senior team across all teams about possible improvements to the platform and helped implement new processes and team structure/benefits for employees. I was called upon a few times for my insight into how to help better the email development team and what processes we should add/remove to improve this. I also worked on some redesign while here, for both the ticket system portal and the welcome email My work ethic here has been a huge positive for the business and I had been offered a permanent role multiple times. The teams I work with also were very fond of me and especially enjoyed the quick turn-around time when delivering work. I strived to ensure that I worked to the best of my ability and made sure to give back to the business.
For my placement year, I was employed by O2 and worked in ‘The Lab’. The Lab was the innovation department within the company. My role as a junior software engineer included day to day maintenance, development and testing. I worked with several new technologies such as Location based services, Arduino Micro-controller programming and Ruby on Rails development. I understand and have had experience with Agile Software Development and Test Driven Development. I also attended a conference on web design and development in New York as part of my personal development at O2. I am familiar with version control and used GitHub extensively during my placement.
