I’m William Griffiths, an aspiring Script Supervisor and BSc (Hons) Film Technology and Visual Effects first class graduate. I am currently working as a Runner, however I can also provide freelance post-production services, particularly in editing.
Through my degree and internships working on various promotional films, I gained a fundamental understanding of production workflows, particularly post-production where I learned how to utilise a variety of editing and visual effects software packages. Due to this, I have gained a technical skillset, and a basic understanding of how proper continuity factors into, and benefits, the post-production process and allows for a more engaging piece.
Recently, I completed Avril Rowlands’ TV and Film Continuity training short course where she built upon my basic knowledge and understanding of continuity which was gained from my own research and experience from entry-level productions, including a 12 minute short film where it became apparent that script supervision was a role that suit me exceptionally well.
I primarily researched the role by reading books such as Cybulski’s ‘Beyond Continuity: script supervision for the modern filmmaker’ (2014) and Miller’s ‘Script Supervising and Film Continuity 3rd edition’ (2013), as well as reading interviews featuring Jenn Durrett and Steve Gehrke, among other resources. I have also booked a place for Creative Media Skills’ Script Supervision Intensive Masterclass in November to further develop my understanding.
Since graduating I have been searching and applying for entry-level positions as a Runner, as well as networking. I am open to shadowing a Script Supervisor to further learn of the reality of working as a Script Supervisor on longer-form productions.
