About me
A recent MA graduate with Merit in Contemporary Crafts, now seeking a professional position firmly rooted in the creative sector. With an experimental studio practice that is based in conceptual design and innovation, I have strived consistently to marry this creative immersion with valuable experiences in a range of businesses.
Projects
  • BA (Hons) Portfolio
BA (Hons) PortfolioAn experimental jewellery practice which sought to combine industrial and fine materials, further embellished with the innovative addition of laser cutting in order to etch architectural forms on to the concrete base.
  • MA Portfolio
MA PortfolioThe exploration of the convergence of industrial and fine materials in jewellery resulted in the production of a small range of jewellery, with brooches specifically chosen to encourage an objectification of the product. The influence of modernism informed both the conceptual practice and material processes and in conjunction with the transition of scale and form, these tangents of study ignited a definite refinement of technique and in turn outcome. The juxtaposition between slate and silver, whilst conveying a visual tension of form and quality, also highlights the quandaries of value both intrinsic and extrinsic. As such serves to question how value is apportioned when considering cultural and historical connotations in addition to the economic worth.
Work history
    Craft & Jewellery Designer
Designing, making and curating for collective exhibitions has been a revealing exercise. One where the freedom to explore various avenues of aesthetic allowed me hone my own consciousness for design; thus conveying an interpretation of an independent market, one where commercialism is in the main replaced by individualism. In turn, allowing me to deepen my appreciation for the development of a conceptual vision that transitions the qualities of pieces or collections to present a broader visual founded on the trajected aesthetic. An experience which has asserted a strong sense for creating a need and instilling interest into an audience throughout the various stages of interaction.

Competed and awarded the sole opportunity to design what has become the best selling range, aside from the quality of design, key to the success was personal involvement in negotiating the creative development of the range. This was reinforced by alignment with the company's’ vision and my own initiative to focus on retaining their current brand advocates whilst engaging in new markets and maintaining the company's image and aesthetic values; essential in a competitive jewellery industry. The close interaction and coordination with senior management from supplier to store allowed me the opportunity to gauge the broader elements of design when transitioned into its purpose within the environment. Gaining considerable insight into project development and recognising manufacturing capabilities and technicalities. The insight and awareness drawn from this experience was exhibited in my design processes and additionally when overseeing the production. The creation of a specific aesthetic in order to connect best with the intended consumer demonstrated a consciousness for audience comprehension whilst also enriching my understanding of visual prominence. Running parallel to this was involvement with PR, which reinforced the eminence of message conveyance and interaction through interpretation. Furthermore, our collaborative relationship, compounded by the success of my original design furthered the opportunity to create, develop and sustain what has since become a second consecutive best selling range.
