A recent MA graduate with Merit in Contemporary Crafts, now seeking a professional position firmly rooted in the creative sector. With an experimental studio practice that is based in conceptual design and innovation, I have strived consistently to marry this creative immersion with valuable experiences in a range of businesses.
Designing, making and curating for collective exhibitions has been a revealing exercise. One where the freedom to explore various avenues of aesthetic allowed me hone my own consciousness for design; thus conveying an interpretation of an independent market, one where commercialism is in the main replaced by individualism. In turn, allowing me to deepen my appreciation for the development of a conceptual vision that transitions the qualities of pieces or collections to present a broader visual founded on the trajected aesthetic. An experience which has asserted a strong sense for creating a need and instilling interest into an audience throughout the various stages of interaction.
Competed and awarded the sole opportunity to design what has become the best selling range, aside from the quality of design, key to the success was personal involvement in negotiating the creative development of the range. This was reinforced by alignment with the company's’ vision and my own initiative to focus on retaining their current brand advocates whilst engaging in new markets and maintaining the company's image and aesthetic values; essential in a competitive jewellery industry. The close interaction and coordination with senior management from supplier to store allowed me the opportunity to gauge the broader elements of design when transitioned into its purpose within the environment. Gaining considerable insight into project development and recognising manufacturing capabilities and technicalities. The insight and awareness drawn from this experience was exhibited in my design processes and additionally when overseeing the production. The creation of a specific aesthetic in order to connect best with the intended consumer demonstrated a consciousness for audience comprehension whilst also enriching my understanding of visual prominence. Running parallel to this was involvement with PR, which reinforced the eminence of message conveyance and interaction through interpretation. Furthermore, our collaborative relationship, compounded by the success of my original design furthered the opportunity to create, develop and sustain what has since become a second consecutive best selling range.
Developed a comprehension for the emotional demands on the design and manufacture in a specialist jewellery industry; thus broadening my insight into an individually orientated market. The tailored experience and the reverence placed on product highlights the importance of positioning and associated strategy when catering to an evolving industry. This imparted the reliance on upholding a credible reputation. Partnering each consumer through the redesign and renovation of existing pieces forced me to attune skills, knowledge and practical application. These skills evolved with the diversity of consumers and their unique visions.
My commitment to this vibrant growing British company has seen me involved from the latter stages of brand creation as well as working on the initial products. Experiencing the business evolve has prompted a growing awareness of portfolio creation and management at industry level. Extensive teamwork and involvement has served to enhance objective awareness and its reach within an environment in part by the diversification of channels of delivery into creative avenues without diluting the essence of its purpose. Recent responsibility at all levels of the process from manufacture to retail has afforded me insight into the restrictions that occur and an understanding for the need to be flexible, with the focus on the coordination of risk assessments and contingency planning.
Establishing and managing relationships with clients and accounts, requiring a strong awareness of product and service application and capabilities alongside an evolved sense of business accountability. The gaining of trust and responsibility is reflected in the ongoing assignment of supplier account management and the coordination of inbound and outbound hiring of machinery and equipment; working to guarantee smooth transitioning. Observing the transition of brands throughout the lifecycle reiterates the extent of fierce brand competition within a dynamic market whereby the relevance of design and its relationship with product success has been greatly exposed. A key responsibility involved the roll out and continuing upgrade of software systems that have transformed the business's efficiency and work-system model. With regular involvement in financial policy and sales analysis, to driving the growth of various sectors, my grasp of wider business synchronisation continues to strengthen.
