My work as Woven Textile Designer focuses on my world, I am inspired by the people and the places around me. This year I have been greatly influenced by history. Looking back at the past into my family’s Persian heritage and the influences this has on our lives now. Through my dissertation, I explored the history of wool within Britain’s Textiles industry. Firstly, reading about it, then learning the processes of washing, carding, spinning and dyeing techniques to enable me to understand the whole process, from sheep to shop. I immersed myself in the world of wool and this has influenced my main project for final year where I have concentrated on Menswear Tailoring using mainly wool to create my Final Collection with the focus of designing to reduce the need to consume.
