A question for UX/UIers: What advice would you guys give for someone trying to break into the industry/ what would you suggest doing?

Any recommendations?

  • @Jovita Večkytė thanks very much Jovita! I’ll make sure to browse and connect with other people!
  • @Lewis Bamber thanks for you advice Lewis! It seem that getting yourself out there seems to be the ideal way to go.. I’ll give that a try.

    Thanks!
  • Hey Bryce,

My advice would be to connect with as many people within the industry as you can and always act curious. If a particular designer has done something that interests you, quiz them on it, start that conversation. A huge part of UX/UI design is how the design became what it is. I personally love hearing process, it really opens your eyes.

I landed my job through reaching out directly to a senior manager and openly asking if I could come in and learn from other designers, I wasn't interested in being paid. Fast forward three years and I'm still at the company, learning every single day.

    All the best.
  • Hey, I’m still breaking in the industry by myself, but the biggest advice of all ( I believe other people would give u a lot ) I would say - make connections. Make as much as possible, not only with industry people, but with as many people as you can. If you don’t like networking, learn it and use the time now when you can approach others in a safer” way. And advice to start using Canvas strategy for this( check online). :))
