Advice for someone balancing a creative practice with a non-creative full time job? (Illustrator and now teacher)

So I have taken a two month break from creating/drawing after being freelance for three years as I moved to Japan to become an English teacher. Now that I am feeling settled in my new life, I want to start getting back into my illustrative practice.

I have quite a busy schedule but I was wondering how other creatives on here balance their creative life with a full time job?

  • Hi Kathryn, I’m a creative coach. If you feel you could benefit from support in this area, just send me a DM and let me know :-) Yasmine
  • @Ines Collado I absolutely agree - I have already learnt so much in the 2 months I have been here. It is interesting taking time away and reflecting on my creative practice - I think you are totally right! It is a great time to be inquisitive about my own work. Thank you for your reply and advice!
  • Some say that when you teach, you learn the most. So maybe you can work on a full time job, but learn about your artistic practice. I am a fine artist, and I had a 2 year full time job before the pandemy. In that two years I managed to keep drawing and learning in the job.
