Any good crowdfunding resources on campaign launches?

I support a small startup client with a tech app (that supports loca independent businesses in food and drink). They want to run a crowdfunding campaign and I was wondering if anyone knows any tried and tested tools/ blogs that could help guide the way?

I’ve personally built launch campaigns for services and products with great success, but wasn’t sure if crowdfunding would be different. The premise is a prize draw win money to spend in the local economy, supporting the apps mission and the local businesses.

  • Hi Nicholas, I haven't run a campaign myself but I know lots of people who have and I've helped to create assets (like the campaign video) for them too. The main takeaway I have is to create a pre-launch campaign that will gain you followers, explain the project and tell people why they should invest in it and prep them so that they are ready on day one to support.

The video, rewards and info on the page are all secondary elements. None of those will matter if no one knows about your campaign and they don't give money at the start! You want your campaign to get 50% of the cash ASAP so that when people come later on, it looks like a winning rather than a losing campaign.

This guy has a bunch of interesting videos about it on his YouTube page:

The other thing to consider are the various websites out there that are specific to a certain type of project. Kickstarter is the well known one but you have to hit your target or you get no money. IndieGoGo however lets you keep whatever money you make but you pay a higher percentage to the platform. Nowadays there are crowdfunding websites that specialise in arts projects, food and drink, etc, etc. Find the one that is right for you.

    Good luck!
