Anyone know how to get commissions "out there"?

I'm just starting out with doing commissions, I'm fairly young & not very popular on social media. I'm trying to sell my art, quite cheap I'm told, & I was wondering if there's a way to advertise it? Yes, I know about social media algorithms & all that, but nothing seems to be working for me. I'm hoping I can get some help from someone who is somewhat experienced...

  • Hi Selina,

I have found talking about and showing your work to people you already know will help build your portfolio of commissions. People, even who you do not expect, are often interested in helping you -by either supporting you, sharing your work or commissioning you themselves.

Also starting to produce work you want to create in commissions will help build your body of work which will allow potential future clients to see the type of work you do.

    Hope this is helpful!
  • Not sure what you illustration style is hard to give direction based on something I can’t see.

Sneaking as an intern, when really I was a mid weight ;)

If you can’t get in the front door, wrap your portfolio round a brick and throw it through a few windows.

As your an artist, illustrator find creative ways to put your work on the streets by guerilla marketing methods, be a rebal. Kieth Haring, KAWS etc all did methods to deface ads with their style getting recognised by commerical brands.
  • The one thing that has really helped me unfortunately is volunteering art for people that I know are somewhat underground – if you can sweep someone off their feet they’ll think of you differently, and if you work with people who haven’t had their needs met yet you’ll win them over much more easily.
