Calling all surface pattern designers. What platforms can I sell on? I only know of creative market, shutterstock. Thank you.

With good rates as well, print prices are underpriced IMO on shutterstock. I’m a slow designer, it won’t work for me. Or maybe just online print studios that I could join?

  • Hi Eni,

I used to work as a surface pattern designer and I know that you can upload and sell through platforms like https://patternbank.com or you could sell though a studio. You can often find lists of studios through the exhibitor lists at tradeshows like Premiere Vision https://www.premierevision.com/en/ or https://www.thelondontextilefair.co.uk/print-studios/ It's a long time ago for me but I used to source a little and then sold through Owens and Kim https://www.owensandkim.com/news/article/category/textile-shows/ Off the top of my head there is also Whiston and Wright and many more! http://whistonandwright.com/home.php

Unfortunately selling textile designs is a churn industry; making work quickly and selling it cheap unless you're lucky enough to work somewhere high end! I love Xi's idea of keeping ownership of your favourite or most you desings and selling them on Spoonflower that way I'm guessing you would retain the copyright and sell by the metre etc.

    I hope that helps :D
