Filmmaker moving to the next level, I want to find an agent or production company in 2020. Any recommendations on how to go about this?

This will be my eleventh year working in film & commercial shoots. I've been working a s a full time writer director for 2 years now. I want to get to the next level and find an agent or production company to start geting more high profile jobs. I just have no idea how people approach this process. Apart from making a director's reel... What else would you recommend to consider or do?

Many thanks!

  • I’d recommend building a list of production companies both in the UK and abroad that you

    A) like what they’re generally producing
    B) see your body of work fitting in with and complimenting

They wanna see many things in potential directors, but make sure so you aren’t pitching impossibly high, into an already packed roster or into a roster that does what you do better already.

Then personalise your approach and get the right EP, Head of Sales, rep etc’s attention. There’s a million ways you could do this, but it never hurts to be polite, to the point and know your stuff about them and how you might fit in beforehand. Invest money snd effort to get their time & attention. It’s worth it.
