For anyone working as freelance, any advice on how to discipline yourself and avoid getting distracted with other housework and chores?

  • It depends on how you work.

For me, I am most productive and energised when I first wake up so all my work that requires more energy like writing, planning etc goes into the morning.

Then design for me a lot easier so i do that during the night time.

Then in the middle i chill and do housework/read,chores listen to music haha

  • My routine as a freelance over 10 years is something like this...

    If I am not working...
    > I spend 2-3hours looking onto to find jobs on different platforms. Then I send any promotional content that is related to my field of work.
    > Afterwards, I focus on my promotional material like updating my showreel and webshite content.
    > Update my CV/Cover letters
    > Produce personal projects or learn something new from tutorials

    When I am working...
I focus all my time on the job at hand. Have little breaks often. Don't really have lunch as my little breaks are peppered over the day. If I am hungry, I eat at my disk and crack on with my job.

After work then I chill out by watching something on TV or play video games. If I have the energy and motivation then I go back onto my personal projects.

If there's any housework or chores needs doing then I make sure they are sorted... It would take 5 mins to set up the washing machine and then you can leave it until it's done. After all, you don't need to watch it for the next 60mins.

Try to focus one task at a time, juggling different tasks at the same time doesn't work for me and I never get to complete them all.

You could write a short to-do list for the month instead of the day, this way you don't feel too bad if you don't get it done in one day.
  • I find having a routine is one of the best ways. Treat it like a normal day if though you are going into the studio. 15minute short-breaks in-between my day helps with distraction.
  • VVVVVEEERYYY god question!
I found slightly helpful to write a list of things to suring the day and pin it on my board in front of the desk
    :)
