  • @Tanel S Tanel I cannot thank you enough for the depth you have gone into here! I didn’t expect such good help which is lovely to find :)
I have made all the edits you recommend I think, fixed the broken links and I will just need to edit/refresh my logo next.
You are correct in that some of my work is older! I will try to narrow it down to the best ones.
  • @Lauren Stephenson I used wix before, for my understand should have icons in the editor with destop icon, tablet, mobile icon --- you have to edit the design in each section.

Advise to make hero pages 1 core portfolio page use that as a template.
  • @Lauren Stephenson
I was using desktop. I hope you can make it work as responsive though as many people will look portfolios in their phone/tablet etc.

Also good web ux is that logo (symbol + text both) will redirect users to home page. As you are designer I feel that it is almost mandatory to have your logo done with proper typography not as web font.

Many websites don't use home as navigation link.

Depends how much time you have to invest and how much work you want to do. Here is how I would do it and what should be one of the quickest solutions.

    Navigation:
    Logo = home.
    Work
    Blog
    About
Contact (Optional - can be together with about)

    Homepage:
Top row logo + navigation + languages. 1 row.
Delete search and Explore my work.

Hero area or section visible at first.
    Introduction + photo of you.
    Optional (2 cta-s About Lauren / works)

    Second section:
Show some of your best work or links to separate categories of works you do as you have now. You can use anchor tags to make them work. Show images and don't use overlay there.
Bottom coould be link - See all works.

Commercial section: delete. It doesn't look good and I don't know what it even should do.

Contact form - Optional. I am not sure how much conversions it will boost. Maybe.

Footer - make it as wide as top nav.
Left side © + Privacy policy link 0 Optional Contact us link. Right side social media links.

    Works page.
Have section titles like you have now Patterns, Fashion etc.
Maybe you can do few less categories and even bit less work. You have creat and unique style and there is 100% need for this. Same time it seems that there is too much of everything. I believe that some works are older as I see that their quality is not so high. As a client I don't know that. Maybe your work is just random and it has to be my lucky day to get something good.

Make all works like you have Illustrations now.
For logos and icons you can have have one image. Many works are more or less graphic design and this could be one more general chapter.

Blog - if it is link to external site could be good idea to add small arrow icon to indicate that it will direct outside / open in new tab.

Social page - probably you don't need that. Have social media links section in footer + contact / about page.

About - business cards photo on top I would lose. Maybe create an photo + illustration collage where you are at.
Add social media links + contact form. Probably if you don't have too much content you can make these two pages as one. Less web development work too.
Also if you mention your blog would be good idea to make this as link. Maybe it even helps with SEO.

  • @Luke Freeman ah I’ll definitely look at fixing that, are there any other website builders you’d recommend?
  • @Luke Freeman hello Luke, were you looking over phone or a computer? Thank you so much for the advice that’s very helpful!

I’ll make sure to fix the thumbnail links and I’ll add descriptions into the illustrations
  • @Tanel S Hello, thank you for such detailed feedback that’s amazing! Quick question - were you viewing over mobile or computer?
  • Really like your illustrations, feel the website layout trys to hard to encapsulate everything you do under the sun.

Would suggest looking to a different website CMS, more image based rather than text and social icons dotted in the nav and footer.

Home page thumbnails don’t take me anywhere. Consider every project opened in it’s own page with detial crops of the illustration show the detial of the illustration.

  • Here is a bit of feedback:
    1) Top part is too busy and unorganized / balanced.
    2) When I enter first time to your site and have been there just 0.5 seconds I don't want to see any kind of pop-up about blog. I don't know who you are, what you do and do I want to keep connected. If most your visitors already have background about yourself they may want but I still doubt it.
    3) Again something personal. I have seen some really talented illustrators who do vector work but use only photoshop. I find it limiting as you can't have svg (what works creat for web and is excellent for animations / code manipulation) or you already need to know what is the final size. So seeing some thumbnails and PS badge and no Illustrator badge makes me think is this your workflow.
    4) You sell your works. I don't think it is good idea to have dark overlay over thumbnails. Also I expected that these thumbnails are links and I can see more works in specific areas.
    5) I don't understand what this small heart icon does. Don't really think that this is needed.
    6) When I click illustrations I see logos. Seems bit odd though all of the logos have specific style. When I click on logos modal will open however no content and some placeholder text there.
    7) I think some of the illustrations look interesting and they have unique style - what you should sell. Personal opinion. I would remove the Witches one.
    8) I am not sure that categories work here as expected. Probaby would be best if all illustrative works are in one feed and with big thumbnails. Icons from one project can appear in one image.
    9) Products. Again page seems rather complicated. Different type of works and different thumbnails etc. Some open in modal others won't. Maybe it is intentional and is related to "messy" style but in my opinion it should be more organized or more wild in different way.
    10) Other works. Weird to see this kind of navigation as previous 2 links had different types of works together.
    11) Could be more organized in footer area too. Balance between icons and text etc. Layout, alignment.
