Hello! I'm looking for my first full time job or paid internship as an Editorial Assistant. Any advice on how to get started? Thanks!

My undergraduate degree is in Actor musicianship, but I have a strong background in English Literature and Language, and I am a writer by nature. I can spot a typo from a mile away, and I've gotten a lot of satisfaction from proofreading my peers essays and creative works. It occurred to me this year after proofreading a friend's dissertation that it's something I should try to get into professionally.

Any help would be much appreciated! In return I can offer a piece of original album artwork or illustration, or a really fantastic banana bread recipe. Thanks in advance!

  • I wish I had the same skills in writing. Unfortunately, I make too many punctuation mistakes and have problems with grammar. One day I found a site https://www.grabmyessay.com/college-paper and found out that there is a service that can help me with writing an assignment. I am very glad that there are experts who help to complete the task of any complexity in a short time.
  • @Robbie Masters hi Robbie, thank you so much. I can’t really afford to do an unpaid internship at the moment, but thank you for sharing your experience - I’ll keep it all in mind. Thank you :)
  • Hi Grace,
As it’s entry level it never hurts to apply for any editorial assistant jobs that come up even if you don’t have much experience. I went through the unpaid internship route - not for everyone but worked for me. I know it’s a bit unfair working for free and not great to undervalue your work, but in my experience it helped me build a solid and diverse portfolio of written work. It also gave me confidence at interview as I could talk about a few particular interests in terms of writing topics and the experience of working under a team of editors and a head of content (it was a digital marketing internship). You can get similar experience from freelancing, but as many companies will be looking for remote workers right now it might be a good time to set up alerts for all internship opportunities on a number of sites. I’d say just get as much relevant experience as you can, even if it’s starting your own blog without any intention of anyone reading it, and keep throwing applications out there and seeing what sticks. Good luck!
