Hey, I'm looking for some helpful feedback on my designs on my dribbble account. https://dribbble.com/beelou

I'm trying to look for my first job as a designer but with the current state of the world I don't think it will happen any time soon. I'd love some feedback on my work to see if I can better anything or even learn something new :)

  • @Rebecca Duncan Thank you for getting back to me (sorry for the late reply).
I appreciate your feedback and have been looking into everything you suggested.
    Thanks again:)
  • Hey Louise!

I've given you a follow on Dribbble – think you've done a really good job of showing a variety of projects and work in progress.

I'd say you could work on strengthening your typography/typesetting. This just takes practice (!!) But I'd watch for things like

    - using lorem ipsum text. There's a good argument for using this at first, but a lot of alternatives. You can always grab text from an article and use that. It's good real world practice for working with weird content!
    - having consistent leading (the space between lines)
    - making the text readable. Think about your user here, what's going to be above and below the fold, how much is 'too much' in a paragraph.

    I'd look at

    - Typewolf (good type-led websites, and font reccs) https://www.typewolf.com

    - Grid examples (https://www.awwwards.com)

    - Animation: anything you can do to bring your pages alive! There are lots of ways you can do this, through Photoshop, Sketch Craft, Invision and Marvel prototypes, or using a service like Zeppelin (https://zeplin.io). It doesn't have to be a big, elaborate animation – just showing how the user will navigate is important.

    - User Experience Research: this is a massive, growing area that's changing all the time, and definitely worth looking into if you want to design UI. I'd look at resources like SuperHi, Treehouse and Smashing Magazine's book series.

Don't lose hope – you will get a job! You've got the style and you're taking the time to develop the skills. Keep trucking, and let me know if you want to chat more
