Hey! I've just completed my website and I'm looking for any feedback so I can continue to improve it! Just let me know what you think...

  • @Stefan Vallance Good advice. I'm currently working for a well-known company but they don't allow us to share our work on these platforms so I have to be careful how I present that work (my most recent). I'll have to message you for some SEO tips, if that's ok?
  • @Richard Littler Ah! A very familiar problem I promise you!

My process was considering first if a project was truly worth showcasing, if it was, I would build on it; create additional mock-ups, play with the branding more and develop more material to accompany the piece.

If not, or if it wasn't recent (within 2 years - though that's a personal stance), it got cut.
  • @Stefan Vallance Thanks Stefan, the bit I'm struggling with is my portfolio, I'm still not sure how best to present it. One of the problems I have is some projects have more imagery than others, so I don't know if I have enough content to give each project it's own page. I'll definitely look at making the top section smaller and including links at the bottom. Cheers!
  • @Nada Abughris Thanks for the feedback, Nada. I'll have another look at the bio page and see if I can reduce it down.
  • Hey Richard!
A rich portfolio of work, well done.
    Points to consider:
    - Move your projects to the first page of the site
    - Reduce the about me section and make it more concise. Peoples attention spans is so small, so capture what you want to say in a few sentences.
    - The categorisation of your work is great, could you possibly separate each project so that we see more of it isolated on one page?

Good luck. Keep up the good work :)
  • I really like it; you've put a lot of time and thought into it and this effort really shows.

Thinking about this from a UX perspective and have a few simple ideas that could help your site make a stronger impact:

    - On your homepage, you lead with some detail about yourself which is helpful, but it takes up a lot of space on your page before you get to the work. You'll find potential clients/employers come to your site for the work first so either reduce the height of this section or move this section to below 'Services'.

    - @col dixon already mentions the interactivity on the website, I fell into the same trap and expected to click on a project to view a separate page explaining your work.

    - A simple link in your footer directing people back to the top of the page is always useful.

I hope these ideas help - a portfolio is always a beast to tackle but something to take pride in! I'll leave you with this: don't forget to update the SEO on your About & Contact pages... ;)
