Hey people! I am just learning to use Figma. What's your opinion on this web-building tool?

  • Not entirely sure what you mean by "web building tool" but in my opinion Figmais brilliant. I think the way it functions is a nice balance between designing as art and building something with code, the reason being once you start using frames and auto-layout, you are essentially building responsive components instead of static graphics.

The sharing and collaboration features are great but for me it really is the frames, auto layouts, and the way it handles colour and text styles that puts it head and shoulders above the competition. If you're using Figma absolutely spend some time getting familiar with these aspects as they are real game-changers.

Prototyping in Figma is something I'd like to do more of, as far as I can tell I think Adobe XD has a slight edge in this aspect due to the flexibility of Auto-animate features allowing slightly more lifelike interactivity, but overall I'm still definitely a Figma convert.

If you're talking about building live and functioning sites, it might be worth exploring something like webflow which essentially creates "real" sites in a similar way to design tools. I don't have much experience on that front apart from tinkering a bit a while back - I found it harder to get to grips with myself - but have met a guy who basically started a business on doing so, so its definitely doable!
  • I love it. Used Sketch a lot previously, but the Figma workflow seems much easier and great for sharing and collaborating. Also using with Protopie currently and that has been very smooth. It is a bit of learning curve to get started, as not all tools obvious, but worth perservering, IMO.
  • After hearing so much good about it I started learning it myself but find it surprisingly difficult in the beginning. I’m still convinced that the effort will definitely pay off some day and love the easiness to share designs from there. Will not even consider using something else
