Hi! I am thinking of starting to learn animation and was hoping anyone with experience could give me some advice on what programs they use?
I am considering buying an ipad as it seems to be the most efficient option-if there are any cheaper methods please do let me know what you use and what is a good way to get started! I am very confortable drawing/sketching so I have not yet tried working digitally. Any feedback would be of GREAT help.
Thanks Xx

- If you are going also to use the iPad connected to your laptop, I suggest you give a look to Krita, is a freeware, similar to TVPaint (that's one of the standard softwares for hand drawn animation), and quite simple to use. You can even set it to match Photoshop shortcuts etc by default (if you are familiar with it).Procreate is extremelly simple, may be nice for lerning the principles. But if you are good at drawing I would go with something that has a complex Onion skin that can help you.AE instead you can use it for 2D digital animation and rigs but you can't actually hand draw with it, so no frame by frame animation+ if you have the chance give a look to: "The Animator's survival Kit" by Richard Williams.hope you can find something valuable in herecheersA.
- Yeah Procreate is a fun and simple way to do frame by frame :) Rough Animator is also quite a good one – I personally haven't used it but Dima Tkachev uses it a lot in his animations :) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFUcQ14n5_Y/
- I think you can animate in Procreate on ipad if you want to do frame by frame. A lot of 2D animators use After Effects but you need Creative Cloud. Check out School of Motion and Ben Marriott on Youtube :)
