Hi there, I am looking for advice on the best E-commerce platform to use.

I am looking for advice on the best E-commerce platform to use.
I am wanting to set up a blog style website, with the ability to implement an online shop at a later date. At the moment I have my products on Etsy, but I would ideally want my own website to sell my products. I am looking at squarespace? Is this the best platform to use?

Thanks,

Yas

  • @Jacqueline Colley Hi Jacqueline,
Thanks for your advice on the above. I find squarespace the easiet and most user friendly to use, when i've taken a look. Your advice definitely helps with planning for the long term and choosing the right platform to use.

    Kind regards,

    Yas :)

  • @Anna Negrini Hi Anna, That's brilliant, thanks for your help on this.
I will definitely take a look into shopify. I ideally want a more blog style, with the option to add products eventually. I will take a look at shopify!

Thanks so much for your help.

    Regards,

    Yas
  • @Paul Woodthorpe Hi Paul,

That's brilliant, I've never heard of SquareUp before. I will check this out!

    Thanks for your help.

  • SquareUp without a shadow of a doubt.

My daughter set up with Shopify and had several issues and they are not cheap either.

SquareUp was created by the owner of Twitter and is heavily backed and not only offers everything Shopify offer and cheaper, but they offer a lot of stuff to take ecommerce from online to offline if you wanted to expand.

I rate them highly and believe they will be one of the top 3 ecommerce platforms in the next couple of years.
  • I've created a Shopify website for a small brand and everything went smoothily, lot of options for e-commerce, blog features but not portfolio. The default page structures are very basic unless you can code / customise the template. Probably Squarespace has more and better templates and it's more focused on porfolio/website features.
  • Hi Yas, I can only speak to my experience; I started off with Big Cartel - because you could sell for free with a couple of listings. Then I moved to Squarespace so that I could integrate my Portfolio website and my Shop and I've been super happy with them for 7+ years. If I was going to change now I might opt for Shopify as it looks of lot more flexible / customisable for the shop though also much less geared to portfolios.

  • I am sure there is no such thing as best platform.

Squarespace I feel could work however probably it is bit limited if you want to expand.
Wordpress is for blogging and you could add Woocommerce there and for small to medium sized shop do pretty much everything what you imagine. You have full controll over code. Same time it means you need to hire someone for the work if you don't have skills yourself and it can become costly quite fast. Advantage of Wordpress is that there are a lot of developers. Same time you may easily end up working with inexperienced team and get something what will cause a lot of problems.
    Webflow has ecommerce features too.
Shopify probably is one of the best solutions for mid-sized shop.
Magento is best if you have huge shop with a lot of products etc.
