  • Hello Samuel, I had a look at your online portfolio. I really like your photography and you have some great illustrated hoodies in your portfolio. Maybe working on spontaneous applications might help too. I found a paid internship back when I graduating by sending a spontaneous application. One thing that I would suggest is perhaps to put the illustrated hoodies under a category title: 'textile design'. You seem to have lots of different skills from photography to pattern design for textile etc. Personally that is something that I love, when someone is multi talented. This means you could be really great in a studio to work on lots of different things. Maybe you could also try to pitch your patterns for textiles to a brand like Urban Outfitters or a sportwear brand. I'd see these working really well. One final suggestion is to review a bit the landing page titles and presentation so it's clearer what you do. I always found when I started out that if was not landing jobs, the best was to redesign and reshuffle how I presented my portfolio. Good luck with the next steps and hope you find something soon.
  • @Julia Sabiniarz Thank you!!! I did appy to alot of entry/ internships roles but i keep getting regected because of not enough experinece which got me annoyed hahah. But thanks for the idea and sharing your experience. I will try that!! thank you!!
  • Hi Samuel!

Have you looked into paid internships or entry level roles? They can help build your portfolio and make finding future jobs or freelancing gigs much easier.

What helped me gain experience was working at my local print shop where I learnt tons about design softwares, printing, production etc – it looked great on my CV when I graduated.

Also, working on your portfolio to ensure it represents your best work that potential employers or clients may find appealing is so important. When I first started out, I’ve made a mistake of chucking everything I was proud of into my portfolio and it was a mess; however, when I curated my portfolio a bit more and tailored it to the role I was looking for, I started receiving more responses and interview invites which ultimately led me to landing my first post-grad job.

    Good luck!
  • Hey Samuel,

well there are certain websites that you can take part in design contests.. Its not everytime you win obviously, but you can get some experience by checking briefings, see what other designers upload for the contests, it's worth checking out, maybe trying one contest yourself to see how it works..

    It's called 99Designs
You end up building a profile with your design submissions, even if you don't win the contests. Also you get votes and might pass onto the next phases, you can get feedback from the clients too, etc.

    good luck!
  • @Jagruti Mange Thank you very much for this, I will definitely check this out !
