How do you decide on pricing for client work? Currently trying to assess how much would be appropriate to charge for a brand logo.

I'm working on two logos for an online community brand, one for social media and one for their website. The pieces are monochrome black and white ink drawings (hand painted) with some digital text. It would be really helpful to hear from any freelancers on how they price their work. I will probably have spent around four hours maximum on them. Input would be much appreciated!

  • Futur have some good content around the topic.

Logo work should not be charged on an hourly basis but rather on the amount of touchpoints it has, similar to licencing photography usage. The amount does not correspond to how long it took the photogapher to take the image, but rather on the length of time it would be in use and on which channels (web, print, social media) and on top of that geography.

If a brand is in 3 continents and they have physical locations, online retail, wholesellers, complex social media communication, work with KOLs and ambassadors, their logo should be very expensive.

If a brand is tiny and super local, their logo should be much cheaper.

That same logo could take you 4 hours.

  • @ɐɹoᗡ ɐuu∀ ˥ Going by day rate is good advice. Really helpful, thankyou!
  • Hi Anna,
I would say have a look at how long you worked on it and calculate the price by your day rate. A junior designer usually charges between £150 - 250 per day. However if you define yourself as an artist seniority isn't such a thing so it can go high in the sky depending on your exposure. Hope it helps!
  • @Deniz Bostanov What a great channel! Thanks for the recommendation, really appreciate the tip.
