How do you find time for your content marketing? Tips, Habits, Advice?

I'm self employed and loving my client work and naturally it takes up the majority of my time. However I want to be able to sit down and write content for my website, but it's tricky with so many other priorities.

Does anyone have tips for creating time and space for their own marketing content (video, blogs, newsletters etc.)? Do you have particular habits or routines?

I'd love to hear what works for you.

  • Hey Michelle, a couple of quick tips would be getting up slightly early and doing it first thing (before your day gets hijacked). Sundays also good - its about knowing where you can pull pockets of time from. Something I think is also important is working out what is realistic for you from an output pov, so that you can plan your time & content and maintain consistency with it. Hope that helps, Lex
  • I agree with Victoria! And I would add that when you have some idea in middle of your day, write it to remember later and then you can plan and do it. Sometimes we have an amazing idea but in the craziness from the day we forget it.
  • I would say that planning is the key. Write a month of content, create the images and get everything scheduled in advance.

You’ll still have to engage with people and do some social listening to make sure you haven’t misread the tone in relation to any news or events, but it takes the pressure off of having to come up with stuff every day. I usually try to record two or three videos at a time (I’ve been known to change outfits between them) to make it easier. You can still do ad-hoc content, but this way you’re not worrying about coming up with stuff.

Sunday nights are the best for me as I don’t have any kids. Do the socials and plan for the coming week 👍🏻
