I am a graphic designer, looking for full-time work. How did you move from the freelance world into a full-time job?

  • Hi @Cornelia Byass, it may not feel like it but it's usually a bit less of a leap moving from freelance to employed, than the transition you're trying to make. Hopefully, through freelance, you'll get to work with agencies who are staffing up to deliver a surge of work, and as they grow and the inevitable turnover occurs, they'll be looking to convert trusted freelancers into FT employees.

Just bear in mind, your toast could be buttered anywhere. Build your network and relationships, and always prove yourself indespensible by collaborating well as a team player, rather than the 'outsider' hired hand. It will come!
  • Hey Cornelia, I think this just comes down to timing, and landing a role. I would say its probably an easier shift as roles are publicly advertised, verses freelance work which involves building your own client base. You just need to look for roles around your level and apply with a robust portfolio :) both creative agencies and brands actively hire designers - hope that helps and good luck! Lex
  • Hi Cornelia,

I’m Jamil from The Dots! Here are my top tips to help you find work:

    1. Follow your favourite companies so you’re the first to know when they post jobs and call-outs:

    2. Build your network by connecting with people you already know, and people you want to know! (fun fact: 50-80% of jobs are filled through networking):

Oh, and your newsfeed is the place to discover all the best opportunities to network, find work and more:

    I hope that helps!
