I am looking for artists, photographers, designers, architects, etc. who would like to submit their work or an article for a magazine!
For my project, I would like to create a digital copy of the Amami magazine (you can look at the cover concept on my page). This issue would be called Escapism, and the idea is to get creatives to submit their work or write an article that thematically relates to this word.
Escapism, according to the definition found of Google, is the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy. If you were to search for the word "escapism", you would find numerous articles on the negative effects of this phenomenon, that it is a condition to be overcome instead of embraced. Immediately, there is a very cynical assumption that escapism is an inherently bad state of mind. In our culture, it is admirable to be "realistic" and It is often the case that creative endeavours are labeled "escapist", "naive" and therefore irresponsible because they do not confine to the limitations of physical reality. As Friedrich Nietzsche put it, "We have art in order to not die from the truth" This implies that truth is much more grim and unappealing than we expect it to be. It implies that self-awareness might be not only ugly, it can be lethal. Consequently, there is a natural longing for something beautiful, a world of fantasy that exists in the ether, something that makes the crushing reality of human condition worth bearing with.
I hope you guys get inspired by this prompt.
